SHORT BIO


Paola Hornbuckle is a Spaniard/Ecuadorian naturalized United States citizen and playwright. She has a B.A. in English from George Mason University, a Masters in Secondary Education from Marymount, and a Bilingual Teaching Credential 6-12 from San Diego State University.

Experience

Published in two national publications: The Best Scenes for Kids Ages 7-15, The Applause Acting Series (for the Scene Alternative Education) and The Best Ten-Minute Plays, 3 or More Actors, 2008, Smith and Kraus (for the play The Perfect Red). She was Artistic Director of Compass Theatre in San Diego (July 2009-December 2009).
She is a freelance writer and editor concentrating on the arts, and theatre criticism. She has had five productions in theatre festivals: “The Perfect Red” produced in North Park Vaudeville Playwrights Festival (07) and PerspectiveFest, San Diego (08); “Violets Bloom at Sunset” (short version) produced at the Resilience of the Spirit Festival at Compass Theatre, San Diego (09);” This Ain’t No Friggin Love Story” produced at the North Park Vaudeville Playwrights Festival (08), “Teacher, Teacher” in PerspectiveFest San Diego (09). Awards: “The Real Estate Agent” won Scripteasers Playwriting Award 07, San Diego. Recipient of San Diego Arts League Award 2009 for Volunteerism in the Arts. She worked as a public-school English and Spanish Teacher Sweetwater Unified School District in San Diego and is currently an Academic Advisor at Miami Dade College.
